International Learning Opportunities

International Opportunities for Business College Students

The College of Business Administration and the Graduate Programs Office at Kent State University encourage business students to develop personally and professionally by engaging in any of a variety of international learning experiences.

 

Study Abroad/Exchanges

Both Undergraduate and Graduate business students have the opportunity to study in a country outside of the United States. You are able to gain exposure to business and culture in a global setting, while still making progress toward completion of your degree at Kent State! Each of the following opportunities is designed with business students in mind: 

Florence, Italy International Business Semester:

Kent State, in partnership with George Washington University, is offering an amazing opportunity to study in one of the most beautiful and influential cities in Europe. Furthermore, explore the European market on field trips to Milan and Geneva, Switzerland, engage in workshops and guest lectures with foreign business leaders and CEO’s.

Geneva, Switzerland Semester:

The Kent State University Geneva Semester is your opportunity to intern with an international organization,  visit historic places,meet with European officials, establish new friendships, and touch cultures different from your own. Since 1977 the Program has enrolled students from throughout the United States and Canada. Your participation may expand your resume, but we believe the experience will broaden your life.

International Experience in Accounting
: (Recommended for Accounting or Finance Majors/Minors)

This three-week International Experience in Accounting/Finance course focuses on visiting firms and organizations related to accounting and finance in Paris and London, including the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (CASE), Deutsche Bank, and various public accounting and financial services firms. Among other activities, we will be observing an AB board meeting where International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are being discussed.  The first week of the course is spent in a KSU classroom, followed by a two week trip to Paris and London.

International Experience in Marketing: (Recommended for junior and senior students majoring or minoring in business)

Experience a 3 week course focusing on a combination of international marketing strategy and cross-cultural consumer behavior.  Students will spend the first week in a KSU classroom and then travel to London, England where they will experience one of the world’s business and economic capitals.  After experiencing London’s history and contemporary business practices, students will travel by high-speed train and ferry to the historic city of Dublin, Ireland, to witness their culture, history, and business practices.

COB International Business Experience

The College of Business gives you the opportunity to study abroad in Switzerland and France to gain first hand exposure to international business and organizations.  Combining lectures, visits to international businesses and organizations, and cultural excursions, you will come away with a better understanding of the context in which U.S. businesses operate in a global environment.  For photos from previous trips, click here.

Université Laval

Attend the Université Laval to experience international trade in the context of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).   Take part in a program that includes a Leadership Retreat to the majestic Saguenay region, seminars, business simulations, guest speakers, and field trips to various industrial, commercial, and government organizations.

ESC-Rennes

ESC-Rennes has a distinctive international business program where you will learn how organizations and managers can optimize the triple bottom line - economic, social, and environmental sustainability – through a successful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.  This experience in France includes an online pre-course, lecture and discussion, guest speakers, company visits, and personal study time.

Academic Programs

Business students receive an international perspective throughout their studies at Kent. Those with a special interest can choose a course of more intensive focus. For undergraduate students, we offer a minor in international business. Masters students can select an international concentration. Doctoral students can minor in International Business.
